The Haywood Foundation’s allotment plot at Dolly’s Lane is still in its early stages, but it is already proving to be a prize-winning success.
The plot has been kindly taken on by a dedicated colleague and his family, who have been working hard to develop the space with a vision of creating a future community garden for people living with musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.
This summer, their efforts were recognised at the annual Dolly’s Lane Allotments competition, where they entered their French beans, red onions and sunflower. We are delighted to share that all three entries won prizes.
The standout achievement was their magnificent sunflower, which was crowned the tallest in the competition. To mark the occasion, a certificate was presented by MP David Williams and local councillor Jane Ashworth OBE.
The success is a fantastic milestone for a project that is still very much in its infancy and demonstrates the potential for the plot to become a welcoming community space where people can enjoy the benefits of gardening, connect with others and support their health and wellbeing.
The Haywood Foundation hopes to continue developing the allotment into a community garden that can be enjoyed by people affected by arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions.
