We’re excited to announce a very special community art project at Haywood Hospital!

Local artist Philip Hardaker has been commissioned to create a unique sculptural seating area, to be installed opposite the main hospital entrance in the coming months. This beautiful structure will be decorated with handmade ceramic tiles—and that’s where you come in!

How You Can Take Part

We’re inviting staff, patients, families, and local schoolchildren to help design and create clay tiles that will form part of this lasting artwork. Workshops will take place locally near to the Haywood Hospital.

Each participant will create a tile reflecting their positive experiences, connections, or appreciation of the hospital. Your design could include an image, a message, or both—and we’ll even provide letter stamps if you’d like to include words.

What to Expect

  • Join a hands-on tile-making workshop with the artist
  • Your tile will be professionally fired in Philip’s workshop
  • Return for a second session to decorate and add colour
  • See your finished piece become part of a permanent installation!

The Vision

The completed sculptural seat will be a welcoming space for everyone—a place to meet, reflect, rest, or simply enjoy the surroundings. Most importantly, it will be a vibrant celebration of our community spirit and connection to Haywood Hospital.
