Spring has truly sprung at the Haywood Community Garden, and with it came laughter, teamwork and a shared love of getting stuck into the great outdoors.
Over the Easter period, committee members from the Haywood Foundation gathered at Dolly’s Lane Allotments to begin shaping the Foundation’s new community garden. Joined by family members and eager little helpers, the day quickly turned into a joyful mix of hard work and happy memories.
Vice‑Chair Ash Hawarden and committee member Kitty Clark enlisted the help of their children, who rolled up their sleeves and got involved with infectious enthusiasm. From enthusiastic weeding to carefully covering the beds, everyone played a part in preparing the space for the exciting planting season ahead — with plenty of smiles and muddy boots along the way.
The plot already has so much to offer: a greenhouse ready to nurture young seedlings, a welcoming shed for tools (and the odd cup of tea), and a peaceful area designed for sitting back and enjoying the fresh air. It’s a space that’s being created not just to grow plants, but to grow connections.
The Foundation’s vision is to develop a welcoming garden for the whole community, with a particular focus on supporting people living with musculoskeletal conditions. By creating easily accessible, high raised beds filled with flowers, herbs, and seasonal fruit and vegetables, the garden will be a place where wellbeing, movement and nature come together.
As the garden begins to take shape, so does an exciting opportunity for others to get involved. Whether you enjoy gardening, want to meet new people, or simply fancy contributing to a project that makes a real difference, volunteers are warmly welcomed. With many more planting days, growing sessions and shared moments ahead, this is just the beginning of a garden — and a community — blossoming together.
🌼 Watch this space… there’s plenty more growing to come.
