A team of university staff have taken part in a fundraising event in the Leek, raising money for the Haywood Foundation and Versus arthritis. The group of eight, which was made up of staff from the School of Medicine at Keele University and family members, took part in the Leek Rotary Club’s Swimathon, staged at Brough Park Leisure Centre in Leek in March. The annual event sees teams from across the area swimming as many lengths of the Brough Park pool, all in aid of raising money for charity. A spokesperson for the team said: “Our team completed a total of 706 lengths, which meant we swam the length of the English Channel between us.
“Michelle Marshall, team member and researcher, has just come fourth in her group representing Team GB in the World Aquathon Championships in Spain. She completed 122 of our lengths.”
“We have donations still coming in. We are raising money for Versus Arthritis and The Haywood Foundation, as we are a Versus Arthritis Centre of Excellence, and the Haywood Foundation funds ground-breaking research and equipment for patients and facilitates activities for patients.”
